Underlying data are from the Congressional Budget Office, Average Federal Taxes by Income Group, “Sources of Income for All Households, by Household Income Category, 1979 to 2007” [Excel spreadsheet]. The share of capital income is each income group’s capital income share of the total capital income for all income groups. See Table 2.4 notes for the calculations for income group breakdowns and definition of capital income.
