Data on bankruptcies are American Bankruptcy Institute Annual and Quarterly U.S. Bankruptcy Statistics, “Annual Business and Non-business Filings by Year” (http://www.abiworld.org/Content/NavigationMenu/NewsRoom/BankruptcyStatistics/Bankruptcy_Filings_1.htm). Data on the adult population are calculated with labor force statistics from the Current Population Survey, Civilian Non-institutional Population Series, Ages 18 and Over.
